“Misery loves company,” is an old saying that I never could quite get behind. The concept of someone wanting another person to feel as crappy as they do alluded me…that is..until now!! In my small little corner of the country, we are about to enter day 11 of a heat wave and I am sweating my buns off! And guess what?..I want you right there with me.. sweatin’ yours off too! “Lisa! You are so mean!” Yep! I am!…Now that we’ve established that fact, can we move on? Heehee!
I remember about five years ago (2007) Diet Coke came out with a commercial where at 11:30am all of the women in an office took their “coffee break.” During this break, a sexy Diet Coke delivery man walked into the office carrying his heavy load of Diet Coke cans (I am clearing my throat right now..can you hear me?) and set them down. Of course, both the man and the cans were sweaty and chilled…yes, at the same time! The women were swooning (as they should be) and possibly drooling (as no one under any circumstance should ever witness you doing). It was a great commercial. To be honest, that is what came to mind as I read three of the six books in Mari Carr’s The Black and White Collection. ( I am only reviewing three of the books because so far… I have only read three of them. I have really enjoyed what I have read …so I wanted to share them with you. Since they are not in a series format, there is no particular order in which they need to be read.)
In May, I reviewed the Cocktales Series also written by Mari Carr. I explained how much I loved the erotic scenes that Ms. Carr creates. She is a natural. What I found to be truly fascinating and exciting (in more ways than one..wink) is that “Erotic Research” (book one in The Black and White Collection) was Ms. Carr’s debut novel. I would have NEVER guessed that a book about an author writing her first erotic novel would actually come from an author who was writing her first erotic novel!! Shocked the heck out of me! The three novels in the Black and White Collection that I have read so far are, “Erotic Research,” “Happy Hour,” and “Power Play.” One of the wonderful and notable things about Ms. Carr’s Collection, is that each book is so incredibly different from the next. Yes, the heroes are all alpha men to some degree but they each have different personalities. The heroines are so strong and brave but in no way is Ms. Carr making cookie cutter heroines. While hot and steamy sex is a guarantee in every one of Ms. Carr’s books, how the characters get from point “A” to point “S” is for Ms. Carr to know and for us, the readers, to find out.
Ok…now that I have gotten all of that off my chest, I realize…I don’t really want you to be miserable…just HOT!…(and bothered..heehee). So grab a lemonade or a Margarita and pick out one (or more..these are short stories) of The Black and White Collection books by Mari Carr. You’ll be happy that I wanted the company!
Here is my warning…The Black and White Collection is a group of short stories (approx 125 pages) that may contain crude language, some bdsm, menege scenes, and lots and lots of yummy and descriptive sexual situations. In other words…the stories are great! Heehee!!
I look forward to hearing from you.
xo,
Lisa
